About Learn Doglish

Welcome and thank you for visiting Learn Doglish

Hello, my name is Roy, the founder and owner of Learn Doglish. I live in Plumstead – South East London, with my wife and our German Shepherd Lexi.

At Learn Doglish, the training is promoted through Synergy. The concept is, when two units work together (the person, and the their dog), it will achieve a higher and greater level of success. The results are normally far more superior than one could hope to achieve on their own.

How pet dogs are trained is our passion. The dogs welfare is placed at the forefront of all their training.
The Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA) is very clear about pet dogs’ behaviour. This is not just in public places, but also in the dog’s own home and garden (see our legal page for more information).

Importantly, once a dog is trained, the results help to fulfil and benefit not just the owners life, but the dog’s life too.

Book a class, or 1-to-1 training with Learn Doglish.
Join the growing community of very pleased handlers, and their happy dogs.

The importance of professional dog training

The commitment and dedication I have for training dogs goes way back to when I was about 12 years old. My Father brought home my first puppy; a Fox Terrier cross called Patch. I vividly remember hopelessly trying to get the puppy to sit, when all he wanted to do was jump all over me. This was the early 70s and unfortunately the training knowledge wasn’t openly available as it is today. Ever since those early years, I’ve felt very strongly about the benefits of training and have worked hard to ensure my future pet dogs all have the benefits of good training.

I have 25 years experience in training, including numerous family pets and a great number of dogs with Learn Doglish. For many years, I have studied canine behaviour along with puppy and dog training, obtaining distinction levels in each class. I have also taken an Instructor’s course with The National Dog Training Academy to continue to develop my growth in dog training. Currently, I am studying Canine Nutrition and the benefits and effects this can have on a dogs behaviour. An holistic approach is at the forefront of my dog training.

All training at Learn Doglish is scientifically proven, positive reinforcement, reward-based training, teaching the dog to make the correct choices that we prefer they make.

When training any dog or puppy, I always remember Edward Thorndike’s (The Law of Effect) which in essence states that, if a dog’s behaviour is reinforced with a reward, then the dog is likely to repeat the behaviour again.
