At the time, he was very boisterous, full of energy, and struggled to stand still or follow me during the short training exercises like some of the other dogs did—no matter how many treats I tried! Although Hugo was often more interested in the grass and everything going on around him, I still gained so much from the classes. Roy and the group shared really useful tips and techniques that I was able to practice at home and on walks—and that’s where I really started to see results. Because of that, I kept attending, and I’m so glad I did. Hugo has come on massively. He now automatically stops at the curb on walks (and has done for quite some time without needing treats), sits when asked, and waits patiently at the door—even when it’s open—until I give him permission to go. One of the biggest changes has been his behaviour around other dogs. Before, I felt quite anxious and would avoid them altogether. But since about the third week of training, Hugo has been brilliant when meeting other dogs. I’ve learned how to stay calm and how to manage situations confidently, including gently guiding Hugo away if things get overwhelming or another dog has had enough. Wasn’t sure what to expect to be honest - I had one session with another trainer about a year ago and it didn’t go well, she identified some issues and gave me solutions but it didn’t work. I work hard with my dog so it wasn’t that. From week 1 with Roy at Learn Doglish it was completely different, I was nervous but he understood my dog and myself and was able to give me clear and easy instructions on how to carry out the task, I could ask as many questions as I wanted without feeling stupid, the love he has for dogs shines through this is clearly not just a business and all teaching is through positivity and how not to set your dog up, we both have learnt so much throughout junior class and because Roy has made it fun and easy to understand it’s easy to stick to, I love the videos he shares of the different tasks he would like us to do each week with himself and his gorgeous dog, which is perfect for me as I’m very much a visual learner I won’t just take the information in if I listen. After an initial call with Roy I booked the Puppy Foundation training after adopting a 7 month old rescue dog. I genuinely cannot recommend him enough. Not only did he provide support on the day leaving me with valuable methods for both settling and training our dog, he has also provided numerous pdfs and videos for me to review when I can't quite remember what I'm supposed to do. However what has been most valuable is the ongoing support / check ins that he has provided. Adopting an untrained dog has been challenging but Roy has been always encouraging with practical tips for managing behaviour when pup is scared and I need reassurance. I'm genuinely not sure how I would have got through the first week. When our dog is ready I will definitely go on to do the other courses on offer. He pulled on the lead all the time, didn’t have very much recall, and was ‘over threshold’ most of the time, resulting in him constantly jumping up and ripping my clothes and play biting me all the time. After some 1-1 sessions with Roy our little boy is a totally different dog. He walks amazingly on his lead now, he is very focussed on me, checking back and listening. He is building a very strong recall and has learnt lots of words that he responds to really nicely. Roy is very calm and patient, you can tell he loves dogs and wants to get the very best out of them. All training is using positive reinforcement and totally force free - the dogs respond because they learn to listen and want to. I cannot recommend Roy enough, we always loved our dog, but now he is an absolute joy to walk and be around. Roy has made a huge difference to our lives with our little Boston. Where can I give 6 stars! I CANT PRAISE ROY AND LEARN DOGLISH ENOUGH!! He’s been a Godsend for me and my Samoyed. I’ve worked with Roy since my dog was 10 weeks old and he’s been such a huge support through every step of the way. We’ve been through puppy foundation, puppy class, junior class and some 1-1 classes and my dog has improved immensely. He’s also been a counsellor for a stressed owner like me and has helped me through many difficult patches with my dog. Working with Roy is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve had dogs my whole life and didn’t realise some of the mistakes I’ve been making. These classes have helped me lay the foundations to achieving a really happy and well trained dog. Roy has been diligent in helping the handlers get to grips with the individual temperament of their dogs. He’s offered so much more than the classes alone, making the course incredible value for money.
